Once Upon A Time

Adriana

My daughter wrote the following blog post as a creative writing assignment for school.  I enjoyed it so much, I had to post it!

“Once upon a time, there was a kingdom where revolutionary acts of products were not permitted and where men hunched over desks where they sat chained like rowers to a bench, working in silence that was broken only by pens scratching and fingers tapping.

This was a time when great men worked with the great time. Alas, not every soul is content with their brand of torture. These extraordinary personages hold within them a great task: to rebel and take part in Mutiny. They would throw off traditional thinking and form their own ideas. Their society contained men working in places they desired during the time they chose. The products of this era were indeed revolutionary and unique as they were bound not by traditional ties, but were free to roam the internet.

Two young pirates were looked upon as the leaders of such a society, and they were hailed as the greatest minds to prosper from this revolt. They were named Merlee and Chris and they were called upon to change the face of software forever. Accepting and embracing of this calling, they have succeeded in creating software that falls short not of already superior standards. They call themselves Mutineers, the creators of MutinyWare. “

For Mothers…

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!

Well, we are at Mother’s Day.  And of course, being a mother, happy mom’s day to me!  And even more so, to my own mother…who is still the biggest help and lifeline of my life.

My mom was just here visiting me for 4 weeks last month, and as usual, she spoiled both my daughter and myself outrageously.  Now, not to say she spoils us materially…but with taking such good care of us while she is here, and the daily Tim Hortons run.  I have also discovered, that as ridiculous as this sounds, I sleep like a baby when she is here.  On the flip side, she does get me to do all of the icky stuff that I have procrastinated on since her last visit.  When she leaves I always have a full freezer, clean house, and all of my mail taken care of :)

On this last visit however, something new occurred.  We went out for drinks at the local pub!  Now, this is something I have never, ever done with my mom.  Neither of us are drinkers, and neither of us are in the habit of going out to bars.  However, I have noticed over the last several years, that my mom enjoys music.  I know, seems like a silly discovery doesn’t it?  But, she has become quite exposed, and I must say, very accepting of what my daughter and I listen to.  Soooo….twice, yes twice, while she was here, we went out to listen to live music and have a few drinks.  And go figure, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Now….next visit, she is coming down to go to a Nine Inch Nails concert with us.  She wonders if she will be the oldest person there….but damn, she is looking forward to it!

Happy Mother’s Day Mom!  And of course to all of the mothers and grand-mothers out there.  None of us would be where we are without you.

Click to chat on your site

hab.la works with your IM client

hab.la works with your IM client

A couple of weeks ago we went to the TechNow 09 event in Royal Oak, Michigan.  It was a conference, presenting and promoting information and technology based business / entrepreneurs in Michigan.  One of the presenters was hab.la, a company that has created a great method of providing click to chat technology on your website.

Now, there are a lot of click to chat services out there…so what makes hab.la different?  Well, for one, the service is free.  For another, and this is most important to me, their service connects directly to your IM client, whatever it may be.  I use iChat on my mac, and the hab.la service connects directly to iChat.  This way I don’t have to download and install yet another desktop client on my mac, nor do I have to have a web browser open at all times in order to have the click to chat functionality available on our website.

A really great feature of hab.la is also the fact that my iChat shows when someone enters my site, and if they click to chat with me, I can see as they move from page to page within the site, allowing me to know what they are looking at as I chat with them.

If you are looking for a click to chat system for your site, definitely check them out at http://hab.la.  You can also follow them on Twitter at twitter.com/hablagroup.

Launch of MyOddFamily.com

Posted by mbos on May 6, 2009 in Design & Development, Mutiny Designs, News
My Odd Family

My Odd Family

I just recently completed a blog customization and logo design for MyOddFamily.com.  My Odd Family is a blog about a family, that considers themselves to be decidedly odd.  Written by Katybeth Jensen-Ruscitti, who is also the owner of CampRunAPup.com, the blog promises to be a frank, entertaining and humorous look at the life inside an “odd” family.

An excerpt from the first post:

“ODD:  left over, remaining, separated from, somewhat more than, irregular, unusual, unordinary, or (my personal favorite)offbeat.

Some people are destined for fame or fortune, or perhaps their family genes pass down a talent for singing, painting, or learning languages.  My family has passed down the gene for oddness and a talent for Pig Latin. Now, you may be able to escape fame or fortune, or deny a talent for singing or painting, but if the Gods have gifted you with the “odd” gene, your fate is sealed.”

Do check it out and read the rest of the post and more at www.myoddfamily.com and enjoy!  Also be sure to check out the rest of my designs on MutinyDesigns.com.

Mutiny Designs…

Posted by mbos on May 4, 2009 in Design & Development, News

Due to the huge response we have been getting about our web site design and overall branding, we have decided to add a service to the MutinyWare fleet.

Well, it’s not really an add-on…more of a transition.  I have had my own freelance web design business for several years, and have operated under Merlee Designs.  Since starting MutinyWare, I have been considering shutting down Merlee Designs, and only continuing work for my existing clients.  However, due to requests and the response to MutinyWare, I have instead decided to transition Merlee Designs into Mutiny Designs.

I have put up a website – www.mutinydesigns.com – and have put my existing portfolio there.  Within the next couple of months, I will be shutting down the Merlee Designs site and redirecting it to Mutiny Designs.

Though this has been a bit of a difficult decision, I really do feel it is the best way to go.  Merlee Designs has been a huge part of my life for many years, and it is almost like abandoning a child.  Putting all of my effort into one basket though, is definitely a good thing.  MutinyWare is very much my passion, and where I want to spend my efforts.  Consolidating the two businesses makes this easier, and allows me to focus on one brand, that of the Mutineers!

If you are in the market for some design work, need a refresh on your website, or need to get your brand together, please drop by Mutiny Designs and drop me a note.  I would love to hear from you :)
